Editorial note: this is a general guide to Irish slots at Fortune Games. Slot rules, features and RTP can vary between operators and game versions, so always check each game's information panel before you spin. Slots are games of chance — nothing here is a prediction of results, and no strategy changes the odds.

Irish Slots

An Irish slot takes its look from Irish folklore: leprechauns, rainbows, four-leaf clovers and the pot of gold at the rainbow’s end, often with harps and horseshoes on the reels. The studios behind Irish slots include Barcrest, which created Rainbow Riches, as well as Blueprint Gaming, Eyecon, Gameburger Studios, Playtech and Pragmatic Play. What makes an Irish slot

Most of the Irish slots we cover feature a leprechaun, and his role varies: the wild in 9 Pots of Gold and Irish Frenzy, a scatter in Fiddle Dee Dough, a cash collector in Luck O’ The Irish Fortune Play 3 and a fisherman in Fishin’ Pots of Gold. Harps, horseshoes, mushrooms, four-leaf clovers and shamrocks are among the symbols, sometimes against green backdrops like the emerald hills of Irish Luck.

The pot of gold is usually tied to a feature. In 9 Pots of Gold, three or more pots pay wherever they land; in Fields of Clover, the pot is an expanding wild; in Wild Wild Riches, pots show cash values and lock in place for respins. Rainbow pot scatters open the free spins in Irish Frenzy, and in the free spins of Lucky Leprechaun a gold clover raises the multiplier.

Rainbow Riches is Barcrest’s series, begun by the 2006 original and followed by games such as Rainbow Riches Free Spins, Pick ’n’ Mix and Megaways. The original has three bonus features instead of a standard free spins round: Road to Riches, a trail of rising multipliers; Wishing Well, a pick; and Pots of Gold, where an arrow stops on a gold, silver or bronze pot. Trails and picks recur elsewhere, such as the Trail O’ Fortune in Lucky Leprechaun and the Prize Pick in Fiddle Dee Dough.

How Irish slots differ

Layouts run from a compact grid to six-reel Megaways. Fiddle Dee Dough from Eyecon has three reels, three rows and nine paylines, with free games where every win is tripled. Fields of Clover from 1X2gaming has 10 lines that pay both ways and no free spins round: its Pots of Gold wilds stay in place and trigger respins. 9 Pots of Gold Megaways from Gameburger Studios and Wild Wild Riches Megaways from Pragmatic Play offer up to 117,649 ways, and both are rated high volatility. In the first, a free spins multiplier rises with every winning cascade; in the second, wilds on reels 1 and 2 collect cash and jackpot prizes from money symbols.

Coin features differ too. Luck O’ The Irish Fortune Spins 2 from Blueprint Gaming plays on a 5x4 grid, and a single coin scatter starts its Money Spins respins. In 3 Lucky Rainbows from SpinPlay Games, green, red and purple coins fill matching pots, and each pot can trigger free spins with its own upgrade.

Where to start

Each of these shows a different side of the theme:

  • Rainbow Riches: Barcrest’s 2006 original, where the gold pot can pay up to 500x stake.
  • Rainbow Riches Pick ’n’ Mix: before you spin, you choose one, two or three of its five bonuses, and only those can trigger.
  • 9 Pots of Gold: Gameburger Studios’ 2020 original, whose bonus wheel sets the free spins and a multiplier of up to 3x.
  • Irish Luck: Eyecon’s 2012 game, with tripled free games, a pick bonus and low-to-medium volatility.
  • Irish Frenzy: Reel Time Gaming’s Frenzy formula, released by Blueprint Gaming, where leprechaun wilds collect pot values in the free spins.
