Every combination of two or more of your six selections is covered once. Add the six singles and you have a Lucky 63, which is 63 bets. With seven selections the same idea gives a Super Heinz of 120 bets.
What a Heinz costs
Your stake is per bet, so the total is 57 times your unit stake: 10p a bet costs £5.70, 50p costs £28.50 and £1 costs £57. Each-way doubles it to 114 bets, and the place half pays at a fraction of the odds.
A worked example
Say you place a £1 Heinz (£57 in total) on six selections, all at evens.
Two winners give one double, which returns £4, a loss of £53. Three winners give three doubles and a treble: £20 back, a loss of £37. Four winners give six doubles, four trebles and a fourfold: £72 back, a profit of £15. At short odds like these, a Heinz needs most of its selections to win before it returns more than it cost.
Heinz, Lucky 63 or Super Heinz?
The Lucky 63 adds six singles to the Heinz, so it costs £63 at £1 a bet but pays on a single winner. The Super Heinz uses seven selections for 120 bets, and the Goliath uses eight for 247. Each one multiplies the total stake, so the unit stake is often small.
