Editorial note: this is a general guide to gem slots at Fortune Games. Slot rules, features and RTP can vary between operators and game versions, so always check each game's information panel before you spin. Slots are games of chance — nothing here is a prediction of results, and no strategy changes the odds.

Gem Slots

A gem slot puts gemstones, jewels or crystals at the heart of the game, either as the main symbols on the reels or as the whole look. Our guides credit NetEnt with Starburst and Dazzle Me, Red Tiger with Gemtastic and both Gems Gone Wild games, and studios such as Pragmatic Play, Yggdrasil, Playtech, Reel Time Gaming, ReelPlay, Skywind, Inspired Gaming, Triple Edge Studios and Nailed It! Games with others. Our guides to gem slots we stock are listed below.

What makes a gem slot

Gemstones do most of the work on the reels. Gems Gone Wild shows nothing but gemstones, with no card ranks or fruit, and Elemental Beasts makes its paytable from gems: coloured stones at the lower end, with crystals and diamonds above them. Other games keep a few classic symbols beside the stones. Starburst’s colourful jewels sit below the bar and the lucky seven, and Dazzle Me mixes sapphires, emeralds, rubies and amethysts with bells and a lucky 7.

Settings vary. Aztec Gems carves its gems for a jungle temple, Egyptian Emeralds carves a classic Egyptian icon into each gemstone, and Starburst dresses its reels in glowing space gems. Super Tiger adds a savanna setting and a gem-faceted tiger, and Cash 'N Riches Megaways pairs polished gemstones with a diamond as its top-paying symbol.

Two patterns recur. Winning symbols often clear so new gems can fall in, as in the chain reactions of Gemtastic and the Drop Down Wins of Gem Rocks. And many of these games skip a free spins round: Starburst, Crown Gems, Gemtastic, Gem Rocks and both Gems Gone Wild games keep everything in the base game.

How gem slots differ

Layouts range from small to very large. Aztec Gems from Pragmatic Play has a three-by-three grid and five paylines, plus a fourth reel of multipliers from 1x to 15x that applies to any line win on that spin. Dazzle Me from NetEnt has reels that grow from three rows to five, left to right, for 76 bet lines. Gems Gone Wild Power Reels fills eight reels and six rows with gems, and Gems Infinity Reels from ReelPlay adds a reel after every win, raising the symbol multiplier by 1x each time.

The wild features differ too. In Gems Gone Wild, any gem can turn wild at random, and each new wild brings a free respin while the earlier ones are held. Egyptian Emeralds from Playtech needs a full stack of scarab wilds on reel 2, 3 or 4, and those wilds then move to random positions for a respin. Our guides rate Egyptian Emeralds low to medium volatility, with a maximum win of 200x stake, and Gems Gone Wild Power Reels medium, with a top win of 3,000x stake. Both figures are ceilings, not forecasts.

Where to start

Each of these plays in its own way:

  • Starburst: NetEnt’s 2012 game, where a rainbow wild on reel two, three or four expands, locks in place and brings re-spins.
  • Crown Gems: a Reel Time Gaming classic with no wilds, scatters or free spins, where lines can pay from the left, the right or the middle.
  • Gemtastic: Red Tiger’s 2019 game, where each win in a chain reaction lifts the Lava Multiplier, up to 15x.
  • Gem Rocks: Yggdrasil’s 4,096-ways game, where runs of wins from one spin bring in giant blocks of a single symbol.
  • Gems Bonanza: Pragmatic Play’s 2020 eight-by-eight Aztec excavation, where every winning symbol feeds the Gold Fever meter.

All values (Bet Levels, Maximum Wins etc.) mentioned in relation to this slot game are subject to change at any time.
