How Fate of Fortune plays

ELK Studios built Fate of Fortune around three guardians who grant fortunes through a crystal ball, and that ball is where the game’s extra features come from. The reel set is uneven: five reels range from a single row to five rows high, and together they carry 81 paylines, with a win counted when matching symbols line up along one of those lines.

The studio gives the game four kinds of wild. Beside the plain Wild and the Expanding Wild, two of them, the Walking Wild and the Locked Wild, arrive through Fortune’s Favor. Alongside them, mystery symbols can land in stacks, and every symbol in a stack is revealed as the same paying symbol. The last piece is the bonus symbol: three or more of them on one spin open the bonus game.

Fortune’s Favor

Fortune’s Favor is the crystal ball at work. When it activates, it adds one extra feature to that spin, drawn from four: a symbol swap, a Walking Wild, a Locked Wild or a win multiplier. Two of the four are wilds in their own right. With the Locked Wild in place, the reels keep respinning until a win lands, and the Walking Wild is the second wild the ball can hand out. The win multiplier ties into the wider maths of the game: ELK states that when more than one multiplier is in view at the same time, they multiply each other.

The bonus game

Three or more bonus symbols trigger the free spins, and the round has no fixed length. It carries on for as long as mystery symbols remain on the reels and ends once they have gone. A progressive multiplier runs across the whole round and increases with every spin. Each mystery stack turns into a single paying symbol, and ELK sums the round up as a bonus game with progressive multipliers. Two ideas carry Fate of Fortune from the first spin to the last free spin: stacked mystery symbols and multipliers.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fate of Fortune?

It is an ELK Studios video slot, live since 3 August 2021, in which three guardians hand out fortunes through a crystal ball. Its five reels run from one to five rows high and carry 81 paylines, and the features combine mystery stacks, four kinds of wild, the Fortune’s Favor modifiers and a bonus game with a rising multiplier.

How often does Fate of Fortune land a win?

ELK’s game data sheet gives Fate of Fortune a hit frequency of 24.3 per cent, a figure measured across a very long run of spins rather than a short session. It is a figure from the game’s maths, not a forecast: it says nothing about what the next spin, or the next session, will do.

How do the multipliers combine in Fate of Fortune?

They multiply rather than add. When more than one multiplier is in view at the same time, ELK says they multiply each other. In the bonus game this means a win multiplier from Fortune’s Favor works on top of the progressive multiplier that has been rising through the round, and the combined figure is applied to the win before it is paid.
