How Book of Shadows plays
On the surface this is a familiar book game: line wins left to right, card ranks for the low pays and a book that substitutes for other symbols and also triggers the bonus. The difference is how much of the grid the player controls.
- Shadow Rows: the game starts on three rows and 10 lines. You can add a fourth row for 15 lines or a fifth for 20 lines, each for a higher stake.
- Lucky Locks: after a spin you can lock one or more reels and pay to respin the rest. The price changes with what is on the reels.
- Gamble options: wins can go on a double-or-nothing card pick, or on a wheel that gives a chance to enter the free spins.
That mix of row choice and paid respins is what sets Book of Shadows apart from older book slots, where the only choice is the stake.
Free spins and the golden symbol
Three or more books trigger the free spins. Before the round starts, one symbol is picked at random as the golden symbol, and you can redraw it once if you want to try for a different one.
During the spins, the golden symbol expands to fill its whole reel whenever it can make a win, and those expanded reels do not need to sit next to each other to pay. With five rows in play, each expanded reel covers more positions and more lines, which is where the row choice and the bonus link up.
