What Do You Win for 4 Numbers on UK Powerball?
Matching four main numbers on a UK Powerball line wins a cash prize, but not a fixed one: the amount is a share of that draw’s sales, split between every winning line in the tier, so it changes from draw to draw. If your Powerball matches too, the line moves up to the rarer Match 4 + Powerball tier, which also varies.

Two tiers for four numbers
A UK Powerball line costs £4 and has five main numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball from 1 to 26. Getting four of the five main numbers puts the line in one of two prize tiers, depending on the Powerball. Four main numbers without the Powerball is the Match 4 tier; four main numbers with it is Match 4 + Powerball.
The National Lottery’s game procedures give the odds as 1 in 36,526 per line for Match 4 and 1 in 913,130 for Match 4 + Powerball. The Powerball has to be one particular number out of 26, so the version with it is 25 times less likely.
Why the amount isn’t fixed
Both four-number tiers are pari-mutuel prizes. For each draw, a share of Powerball sales goes into each tier, and that money is divided equally between all the winning lines in it. A draw with strong sales and few winning lines pays more per line; a draw with weaker sales or many winners in the tier pays less. The amount paid in each tier is shown in that draw’s results once they are published.
This is different from the two UK tiers that have set amounts. Match 5, five main numbers without the Powerball, pays £1 million, and Match 2, two main numbers on their own, pays £8 (the rules allow these to be reduced only in very rare cases). Every other tier below the jackpot varies with sales and the number of winners.
The tiers either side of four numbers
The odds are per line, per draw, as given in the official game procedures.
| Numbers matched | UK prize type | Odds per line |
|---|---|---|
| 5 main numbers | Fixed £1 million | 1 in 11,688,054 |
| 4 main numbers + Powerball | Varies by draw | 1 in 913,130 |
| 4 main numbers | Varies by draw | 1 in 36,526 |
| 3 main numbers + Powerball | Varies by draw | 1 in 14,495 |
Most UK Powerball lines win no prize in any draw, and no prize is guaranteed. Every line has the same chance in each draw, whichever numbers are chosen.
Frequently asked questions
How much do you win for 4 numbers on UK Powerball?
It varies by draw. The prize is a share of that draw’s sales, divided between all the winning lines in the tier, so the amount changes from draw to draw.
What are the odds of matching 4 numbers on UK Powerball?
The official odds are 1 in 36,526 per line for four main numbers without the Powerball, and 1 in 913,130 with it.
Is the Match 4 prize fixed?
No. In the UK only Match 5 (£1 million) and Match 2 (£8) have set amounts; both four-number tiers change from draw to draw.
Is Match 4 + Powerball a separate prize?
Yes. It is its own tier with its own share of sales, and it is 25 times less likely than Match 4 without the Powerball.
