How Much Is a Lottery Ticket in the UK?

A ticket for a National Lottery draw game in the UK costs £1 to £4 a line, depending on the game: Lotto is £2, EuroMillions is £2.50, Thunderball is £1, Set for Life is £1.50 and UK Powerball is £4. The price is for one line of numbers in one draw, so your total depends on how many lines and draws you enter.

National Lottery ticket prices by game

These are the line prices shown on each game’s official National Lottery play slip.

Game Price per line Notes
Lotto £2 One line for one Lotto draw night
EuroMillions £2.50 UK Millionaire Maker entry included
Thunderball £1 One line for one draw
Set for Life £1.50 One line for one draw
UK Powerball £4 One line for one draw
Lotto HotPicks £1 Separate game using the Lotto numbers
EuroMillions HotPicks £1.50 Separate game using the EuroMillions main numbers

How the cost of a ticket adds up

Every price is per line, per draw. Three lines of Thunderball in one draw cost £3, and two lines of Lotto in one draw cost £4. Enter the same lines in more draws and you pay for each draw again. On the Lotto, EuroMillions and Thunderball slips you can also choose repeat play by Direct Debit, which keeps entering your lines until you cancel; you still pay the line price for each line in each draw.

HotPicks games are separate games with their own play slip and price; they are not included in a Lotto or EuroMillions line. In the UK, the £2.50 EuroMillions price already includes a Millionaire Maker entry, so there is nothing extra to pay for it.

Prices for other UK lotteries

Society lotteries, which raise money for good causes, set their own prices. The Health Lottery’s main game, The Big Win, costs £1 a line. People’s Postcode Lottery is played by monthly subscription linked to your postcode rather than by single lines, so check its website for the current price.

Who can buy a ticket

You must be 18 or over to buy a National Lottery ticket, online or in a shop; the minimum age rose from 16 in 2021. Prices can change, so check the official play slip before you buy. A ticket buys a chance of a prize, and a prize is not guaranteed.
