Star Clusters Megaclusters slot review
Star Clusters Megaclusters is a Big Time Gaming slot released in June 2020, and the first game built on the studio’s Megaclusters mechanic. It begins on a 4x4 grid of space-age gems that pay in clusters of five or more, and every winning symbol splits into four smaller ones. The top payout is 23,960x the stake.

How Star Clusters Megaclusters plays
Wins come from groups of at least five matching gems touching horizontally or vertically. When a cluster pays, each of its symbols breaks into four smaller copies in the same space, then the winners clear and new gems fall in. Big Time Gaming calls each of these steps a Reaction, and they repeat for as long as fresh clusters form. Because symbols keep splitting, the grid can get much denser than it starts, reaching as many as 64 positions in the base game.
Two kinds of wild help along the way:
- Star Wild: a standard wild that substitutes for paying gems.
- Gold Wild Multiplier: starts at 1x and rises by 1x every time it is part of a winning cluster. Up to two can be on the grid, and in the base game the multiplier resets once the chain of Reactions ends.
Free spins on an 8x8 grid
There is no scatter symbol. Instead, the free spins are earned through momentum: five Reactions in a single base game spin award 2 free spins, and every Reaction after the fifth adds one more. Seven Reactions, for example, are worth 4 spins.
The round opens on a larger 8x8 grid, which can again split down towards 16x16. Any Gold Wild Multiplier value built up during the triggering spin carries into the feature, and it no longer resets between spins. Each time the multiplier reaches another multiple of 10, two extra free spins are added. That link between the multiplier and the length of the round is what gives Star Clusters a different feel from Big Time Gaming’s Megaways releases.
