Slingo Classic slot review

Slingo Classic is the Gaming Realms 20th anniversary edition of Slingo, built to take the game back to its original format. There is no themed bonus round: you get 11 spins to match numbers from a reel against a 5x5 grid, and prizes are paid for the slingos you complete. When the 11 spins run out, you can choose to buy extra spins.

How Slingo Classic plays

Most modern Slingo titles wrap the grid in a licensed theme, a pick feature or a wheel. This one leaves all of that out and lets the mechanic carry the game, with retro graphics to match. Each spin puts five numbers on the reel under the grid, and a number that matches one in the column above is crossed off.

A slingo needs five crossed-off numbers in a line, horizontal, vertical or diagonal, and the grid holds 12 possible lines. The pay rises as your count of slingos goes up, so the whole round is about how many lines you can close before the spins are gone.

  • Jokers: wild symbols that let you choose which number to cross off.
  • Free spin token: adds a spin to your total.
  • Pay ladder: the prize grows with each extra slingo completed.

Buying extra spins

The end of the round is where Slingo Classic asks you to make a decision. After the 11 spins included in your stake, you can buy further spins, and Gaming Realms says up to eight are on offer. The game shows the price before you accept each one, and you can decline and finish the round at any point.

Extra spins add to the cost of a round, so weigh that price against your budget rather than chasing a line that is one number short. A near-complete grid can look tempting, but each spin is random and an almost-finished slingo is no more likely to close than any other.
