Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness slot review

Play’n GO released Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness in June 2019, taking its adventurer into a Lovecraft-style mystery on a 5x5 grid. Clusters of four or more matching symbols pay and then cascade away, and every winning symbol charges a portal beside the reels. A full portal opens the Other World round, and the top prize is 2,000x stake.

How Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness plays

There are no paylines here. Four or more identical symbols touching horizontally or vertically form a paying cluster, which then drops out so new symbols can fall into the gaps. One spin can chain several cascades, and each feeds the portal.

Two wilds sit alongside the regular symbols:

  • The Tome of Madness itself is a special wild that stands in for both the high- and low-value symbols.
  • Rich Wilde is a multiplier wild. He replaces the high-value symbols and doubles any payout he helps to form.

What sets it apart from other cascade games is the counter: the portal tracks every winning symbol in the spin, and three thresholds reshape the grid before the bonus is reached.

The portal and the Other World round

Each symbol removed in a winning cluster charges the portal. At 7, two random positions turn into special wilds. At 14 the same happens, and if those wilds join a winning cluster, the Abyss effect clears the wild’s row or column. At 27, two more wilds land, and a cluster using them brings the Void effect, which removes every symbol of one type. Cleared symbols charge the portal too.

Reaching 42 opens the Other World, a single free spin that starts with three portal effects. Every three symbols beyond 42 adds another effect, up to seven. Eleven or twelve eye marks also appear; clusters over them open the eyes, and opening them all releases Cthulhu as a mega wild that slides down with each cascade.
