How video poker works
You are not playing against other people or the dealer: the game pays according to its paytable. Each hand takes three steps:
- Choose your stake and deal. You get five cards.
- Choose which cards to hold. The rest are replaced in a single draw.
- Your final hand is paid according to the game’s paytable, from a low pair up to a royal flush.
Hands rank, from highest: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair and one pair. The lowest paying hand depends on the game. Our guide to video poker covers the hands and paytables in more detail.
Video poker in the lobby
- Deuces Wild: every two is wild, so the lowest paying hand is usually three of a kind.
- Double Double Bonus Poker: extra payouts for certain four of a kinds.
- Aces & Faces: bonus payouts for four aces or four picture cards.
For poker against the dealer, Texas Hold’em Pro is in the table games section. In Texas Hold’em Pro your hand is compared with the dealer’s rather than with a paytable. The same video poker game can come with different paytables, so compare what each hand pays in the help screen before you play.
Video poker or slots?
In a slot, the outcome of each spin is decided at random and there are no choices to make. In video poker the deal is random too, but your decisions about which cards to hold affect the result. Correct decisions can make a real difference to the return of a video poker game, but they cannot turn it in your favour: neither video poker nor slots can be beaten over the long run, and both pay back less than is staked over time.
Bonus funds and video poker
Video poker does not count towards bonus wagering at Fortune Games, and neither do blackjack, roulette or other casino-style games. If you are working through a bonus, bonus funds can only be staked on the games listed on the Bonus Enabled Games page. Otherwise video poker is played with your real balance, and a deposit limit from the Responsible Gaming page keeps your spending in check.
