How Phoenix Fire plays

There is no backstory here, just a symbol set that anyone who has played a fruit machine will recognise. Lines count from left to right and from right to left, so a combination can start on either outer reel. The paying symbols run from small to large:

  • Cherries, lemons, plums and oranges at the lower end
  • Grapes and watermelons in the middle
  • A golden bell
  • The lucky 7, which is the highest-paying regular symbol

The phoenix is the wild, and it substitutes for every other symbol. What makes it unusual is where it can appear: only on the three middle reels. That keeps the outer reels for regular fruit and puts all of the game’s movement in the centre of the screen.

Expanding wilds and re-spins

Whenever a phoenix lands on reel 2, 3 or 4, it expands to fill the whole reel and the game gives a free re-spin with that wild reel held in place. If another phoenix appears on one of the remaining middle reels during the re-spin, it expands and locks as well, and another re-spin follows.

The sequence can run to three re-spins, at which point all three central reels can be wild together. With 10 lines paying both ways, a fully wild centre means every line only needs matching symbols on the outer reels. There is no scatter and no free spins round, so this re-spin chain is the whole bonus. That simplicity is the point of difference from Playson’s coin-collecting titles, which add cash coins and prize pots on top of the reels.
