How a Pick 5 play works
You choose five different numbers between 1 and 50, or let a Lucky Dip choose them for you. Your play is checked against the main numbers from the EuroMillions draw on a Tuesday or Friday. You don’t need a EuroMillions ticket, and the two Lucky Stars are ignored.
Four correct numbers still wins nothing
Pick 5 has a single prize. There is no smaller payout for matching four of your five numbers, or fewer: the play matches all five main numbers or wins nothing. Here is Pick 5 beside Pick 4:

A set of five numbers chosen from 50 can be put together in 2,118,760 different ways. Each draw produces one set of five main numbers, so exactly one of those combinations wins, whichever numbers you choose.
Can the £1 million be cut?
Only in exceptional circumstances, according to the official game procedures. Each HotPicks game has a prize fund, and for Pick 5 that fund is 65 times the total value of the Pick 5 entries in the draw. If the prizes owed to Pick 5 winners in one draw came to more than that fund, the fund would be divided equally between the winning entries, with each share rounded down to the nearest £1. Otherwise every winning Pick 5 play receives the full £1,000,000.
Claiming a Pick 5 prize
A prize of this size is not paid automatically. The National Lottery says prizes over £50,000 must be claimed in person: you call first to register the win, and a date and time is then arranged for the claim. Draw-game prizes have to be claimed within 180 days after the draw.
