Christmas Carol Megaways slot review

Christmas Carol Megaways is Pragmatic Play’s retelling of the Dickens story, released in November 2020. Its six reels change height on every spin to offer up to 200,704 ways to win, and each winning combination tumbles away so new symbols can fall into the gaps. The free spins round lets you trade spins against a starting multiplier, and the maximum win is 20,000x the stake.

How Christmas Carol Megaways plays

The setting is a snowy Victorian London, and the premium symbols are the three spirits from the novel: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and, paying the most, the Ghost of Christmas Future. Because the number of symbols on each reel shifts from spin to spin, the ways in play are rarely the same twice.

Every win sets off a tumble. The winning symbols disappear, the rest drop down and fresh ones fill the space, so one paid spin can chain into several wins before the reels settle.

  • Ebenezer Scrooge: the wild, standing in for the pay symbols to complete a win.
  • Golden pocket watch: the scatter that opens the free spins.

Choosing your free spins

Four or more pocket watches in one spin start the round, and this is where the game differs from most Megaways titles: you decide its shape. The options run from a longer set of spins with a low starting multiplier to a short burst that begins at up to 10x, with a mystery option that picks the mix for you. Each scatter beyond the fourth adds spins, so the longest set can reach 23.

Once the spins begin, the multiplier rises by 1x with every tumble and does not reset between spins, so it keeps building for the rest of the round. Landing more scatters during the feature adds five extra spins. The choice changes how the round feels, not the odds.
