Great Rhino Megaways slot review

Great Rhino Megaways is Pragmatic Play’s April 2020 sequel to its slot Great Rhino, and the studio’s first Megaways game, made under licence from Big Time Gaming. It has six main reels of two to seven rows plus a horizontal reel along the top, giving up to 200,704 ways to win. Winning symbols tumble away, and in free spins each tumble raises a win multiplier. The maximum win is 20,000x stake.

How Great Rhino Megaways plays

With Megaways, the number of rows on each reel changes every spin, and the ways to win change with it. The extra horizontal reel sits above reels two to five and adds one more symbol to each of them.

  • Rhino wild: the rhino with a golden horn substitutes for the regular paying symbols, but it only lands on the top horizontal reel.
  • Paying symbols: the cheetah pays the most, at 50x stake for six of a kind, followed by the gorilla, crocodile, hyena and flamingo, plus five lower-paying symbols.
  • Tumble: after every win, the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop into place. This repeats for as long as new wins form, so one spin can pay more than once.

Free spins with a rising multiplier

Land four or more golden coin scatter symbols on one spin and the free spins begin. You then choose how to play the round, trading the number of spins against the starting multiplier: more spins with a 1x multiplier, fewer spins starting at 5x, or the fewest spins starting at 10x.

Whatever you choose, the multiplier goes up by 1x with every tumbling win during the round. Landing three or more scatters together during the feature adds five more free spins, and there is no limit to how many extra spins can be added this way.

That choice of starting multiplier, made before the first spin, is the decision that shapes each bonus round in this game.
