Can You Buy Lottery Tickets on a Sunday?
Yes: you can buy National Lottery tickets on a Sunday, online, in the official app and in any shop that sells them while it is open. There is no Sunday deadline for any of the draw games, so a line bought on a Sunday goes into the next draw of the game you choose, and you must be 18 or over to play.
Prefer numbers? Slingo mixes a slot with a 5×5 number grid, and online scratchcards give an instant result.

Which draw a Sunday ticket enters
None of the National Lottery draw games takes entries for a draw with a Sunday deadline. Each game has its own fixed days, so the draw your Sunday line goes into depends on the game.
| Game | Draw days | A line bought on Sunday goes into |
|---|---|---|
| Lotto | Wednesday and Saturday | Wednesday’s draw |
| EuroMillions | Tuesday and Friday | Tuesday’s draw |
| Thunderball | Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday | Tuesday’s draw |
| Set For Life | Monday and Thursday | Monday’s draw |
| UK Powerball | Play by Monday, Wednesday or Saturday | The draw for Monday’s entries |
UK Powerball is drawn in the United States, so the National Lottery lists the days by which you have to play rather than draw nights. Saturday is its last play day of the week, so a Powerball line bought on a Sunday is in the draw for Monday’s entries.
If you want a Sunday purchase to cover more than one draw, Lotto lets you play up to four weeks ahead, or by Direct Debit.
Buying in a shop on a Sunday
A shop can sell you a ticket at any time it is open for business, so on a Sunday the limit is the shop’s own hours. In England and Wales those hours depend on its size:
- small shops, up to and including 280 square metres, can open any day and at any hour;
- most large shops, over 280 square metres, can open on a Sunday only for six hours in a row between 10am and 6pm (some, such as shops at stations, airports and service stations, are exempt);
- large shops must stay closed on Easter Sunday, and on Christmas Day when it falls on a Sunday.
So a large supermarket may stop selling earlier on a Sunday than a small convenience store nearby. GOV.UK says there are no trading hours restrictions in Scotland, and Northern Ireland has its own Sunday trading rules.
Buying online or in the app
Online play works the same on a Sunday as on any other day: you sign in to your National Lottery account on the website or in the official app, choose your game and numbers, and confirm your lines before that game’s next deadline. You must be 18 or over to play any National Lottery game, online or in a shop.
A Sunday line has exactly the same chance as one bought on any other day of the week. The day you buy has no effect on the numbers drawn, and a prize is not guaranteed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a draw with a Sunday deadline?
No. No National Lottery draw game has a Sunday play-by day, so a line bought on a Sunday goes into that game’s next draw.
When is the next Lotto draw after a Sunday?
Wednesday. Lotto is drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so a Sunday Lotto line is in Wednesday’s draw.
Can a supermarket sell lottery tickets on a Sunday?
Yes, while it is open. In England and Wales most large shops can open for only six hours in a row between 10am and 6pm on a Sunday, and not at all on Easter Sunday.
