Can You Bet on the UK Lotto Results?
No: in Great Britain, bookmakers can’t take bets on the UK Lotto or on most other National Lottery games. The Gambling Act 2005 attaches a condition to every betting operating licence that rules out bets on National Lottery draws, and since 6 April 2018 a second rule has also barred bets on EuroMillions draws held under other countries’ lotteries.

What the law says
Section 95 of the Gambling Act 2005 is headed “Betting on the National Lottery”. It makes general betting, pool betting and betting intermediary licences subject to the condition that “nothing may be done in reliance on the licence in relation to a bet on the outcome of a lottery which forms part of the National Lottery”.
That covers games whose draws are part of the National Lottery, such as Lotto, Thunderball, Set For Life and the two HotPicks games.
Why EuroMillions needed a second rule
Section 95 already stopped bets on the UK version, but some betting sites offered customers in Great Britain bets on EuroMillions as run elsewhere. A 2018 set of regulations closed that gap. From 6 April 2018, no betting operating licence may be used for a bet on a EuroMillions draw, whatever that lottery is called in any country, when the person betting is in Great Britain.
The government said the change would keep a clear line between the National Lottery and betting and protect the money the National Lottery raises for good causes. The High Court rejected a challenge by three betting operators in November 2018.
Powerball: a gap the government wants to close
Powerball, added to the National Lottery in 2026, is the exception for now. Its results come from the US Powerball draw, which is not part of the National Lottery, so section 95 doesn’t stop betting firms taking bets on that draw. In September 2026 the government opened a consultation on banning licensed betting firms from offering bets on Powerball. It closes at 11:59pm on 4 November 2026.
What bookmakers can offer
Draws outside these rules are not covered, which is why several UK bookmakers take bets on the Irish Lotto.

Does the ban cover UK Powerball?

Can you bet on the Irish Lotto in the UK?
Yes. The Irish Lotto is not part of the National Lottery, and several UK bookmakers take bets on it.
