Aztec Wilds slot
Aztec Wilds is a jungle temple slot from Iron Dog Studio, released in January 2020 on 5 reels, 4 rows and 1,024 ways. Its defining feature is the tumble chain: winning stones crumble away, new symbols fall into the gaps, and four tumbles in a row from a single spin break into the temple for 14 free spins. Three different wilds work the base game, one of them confined to the centre reel.

How Aztec Wilds plays
Iron Dog Studio sets the reels inside a sealed temple deep in the jungle. The paying symbols are Aztec masks, with golden artefacts and medallions above them, and the most valuable of them is a gold piece, valued in the key facts table. Wins are counted across 1,024 ways on the 5x4 grid.
Any win sets off a tumble. The stones in the winning combination break into dust, and new symbols tumble down to fill the spaces, which gives the same spin a chance to pay again. Three kinds of wild help to complete combinations along the way, and the same tumbles are what lead, in time, to the free spins.

Aztec Wilds: 5 reels, 4 rows, 1,024 ways. Wins drop away and new symbols fall in, so one spin can pay more than once.
The three Aztec Wilds
The game is named after its wilds, and they come in three versions. The standard wild can land on almost any reel and substitutes for other symbols to finish a combination. The sticky wild appears only on the centre reel and holds its position while the stones around it shift during a tumble. The expanding wild drops from the top of a reel and stretches down to cover the whole of it, which the studio describes as transforming the temple walls in an instant.
Tumbles and the cracking temple wall
The bonus trigger is drawn into the scenery. A single winning combination opens cracks in the temple wall at the side of the reels, which acts as the meter, and each further win in the same spin pushes them wider. Four consecutive tumbles bring the wall down and take you inside for the free spins. Only the wins of a single spin count towards it.
The temple free spins
Four tumbles in a row award 14 free spins. A longer chain in the spin that opens the feature is worth more: every tumble beyond the fourth means more time inside the temple, up to 20 spins in all, and adds a multiplier to the round. That multiplier then applies to all tumbles during the free spins, and when the last spin is used, the temple closes again.
Aztec Wilds compared with Mayan Gods
Mayan Gods, a 2018 release from Red Tiger, also rewards wins that follow one another, but on a smaller board: 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines, against the 5x4 grid and 1,024 ways of Aztec Wilds. In Mayan Gods every win raises the multiplier, and its headline wild feature is the Mayan King, a god symbol that becomes four wilds and may also make random symbols wild. Iron Dog Studio’s game ties its multiplier to the free spins instead, and spreads its wilds across three separate symbols, with the sticky one held to the centre reel.

| Mayan Gods | 2018 | 5 reels, 3 rows, 20 paylines | The Mayan King becomes four wilds; every win lifts the multiplier |

Frequently asked questions
What is Aztec Wilds about?
It is a treasure hunt set deep in the South American jungle. In Iron Dog Studio’s story, explorers have spent centuries cutting their way through the forest in search of a mythical sealed temple, the resting place of the Aztec Wilds, and the game asks whether you can solve the riddle of its tumbling, shifting stone walls and reach the hoard inside.
How many free spins can one spin unlock in Aztec Wilds?
Up to 20. Four consecutive tumbles from a single spin open the temple with 14 free spins, and each extra tumble in that same chain adds more time inside, up to the cap of 20. Those extra tumbles also build the multiplier that is then applied to all tumbles during the round.
Is there a Megaways version of Aztec Wilds?
Yes. Iron Dog Studio later made Aztec Wilds Megaways, which builds on the original’s mechanics across six reels and up to 117,649 ways. The wilds behave differently there: its sticky wilds only land during free spins. This guide covers the original game only, so check the Megaways version’s own rules before playing it.
