The Phantom’s Curse slot review
NetEnt released The Phantom’s Curse on 24 January 2018 as part of its Universal Monsters range, telling the story of the Phantom and the soprano Christine in a classic theatre. It plays on five reels and four rows with 40 fixed paylines. Its free spins have no set length: they run until the masked Phantom has cut every rope holding up the chandelier.

How The Phantom’s Curse plays
The story comes from The Phantom of the Opera, and the symbols follow it:
- Card suits are the low pays.
- The Phantom pays most, followed by Christine.
- The mask is the wild and stands in for every symbol except the chandelier scatter and the bonus symbols.
- Chandelier scatters land only on reels 1, 3 and 5.
The Phantom lands stacked on reel 1, and Christine or the mask stacked on reel 5; the pair that lands decides the base-game feature. A stacked Phantom on reel 1 with a stacked Christine on reel 5 starts the Pick and Click bonus. A stacked Phantom on reel 1 with a stacked mask on reel 5 starts the Masked Phantom Re-Spin: those symbols, and any bonus symbols in view, stay put and turn wild for one re-spin.
Free spins and the Pick and Click bonus
Three chandelier scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 start the free spins, with the masked Phantom wild throughout. The chandelier hangs over the reels on ropes, and a masked Phantom landing on a reel cuts that reel’s rope. There is no fixed number of spins: the round ends when every rope is cut and the chandelier falls.
Many slots hand out a set number of free spins. Here the length depends on where the masked Phantoms land, so the round can end quickly or run on.
In the Pick and Click bonus you pick from eight roses, each hiding a coin win or a blocker, until a blocker appears. Then one of three mirrors reveals a win multiplier of x1, x2 or x3.
