How Ice Cave plays
The game is set in a frozen cavern from Norse legend, and the reels are filled with figures from that world alongside carved runes. Wins are paid across 20 lines on a standard 5x3 grid, and the symbols split into two groups:
- Picture symbols: the Jarl, the Valkyrie, the wolf Fenrir, a raven and a longship, with the Jarl paying the most.
- Rune symbols: five runes for Wealth, Joy, Protection, Victory and Power, which make up the lower-paying wins.
What sets Ice Cave apart from other Norse slots is that much of the action happens on the base reels, as frozen wilds build up and are cleared from one spin to the next.
Ice Wilds and the Hammer Wild
The Ice Wild substitutes for other symbols and multiplies any win it is part of by 3x. When an Ice Wild lands on reel 3 or reel 4, it freezes in place and stays on the reels for the spins that follow, so a frozen wild can keep adding to line wins until it is removed.
The Hammer Wild only lands on reel 2. It also substitutes and triples any win it helps to make, but when it appears it shatters every frozen Ice Wild on the reels. That is the trade-off at the heart of the game.
Players can also switch on the Feature Bet. It raises the stake by 50 per cent of the base bet and allows Ice Wilds to land on reel 5 as well. It costs more on every spin, and each result is still random.
