This is an educational guide to how casino games work. House edge and payout figures are typical values and vary by game, rules and operator. No casino game can be beaten in the long run — play for entertainment, never as a way to make money, and only stake what you can afford to lose.
What Is Red Dog?
Red Dog (also called Acey-Deucey) is a fast, simple card game built around one neat question: will the next card land in between? Here’s how it works.
How it works
Two cards are dealt face up. You bet on whether a third card will fall between them in rank. For example, if you see a 5 and a 10, you win if the next card is 6, 7, 8 or 9.
The spread decides the payout
The “spread” is the gap between the first two cards. A wide spread is more likely to win, so it pays less; a narrow spread is harder to hit, so it pays more. If the first two cards are consecutive, the hand is a push, and a pair has its own rule.
The odds
The house edge is modest — around a few percent, varying with the number of decks — so check the table before playing. See Casino War, what the house edge is and casino games with the best odds.
