The Spin Lab slot review

The Spin Lab is a NextGen Gaming slot released in 2015, played on five reels and three rows with 25 fixed paylines. Its main mechanic is the Spin Lab Bonus: three or more scatters award five free spins, and before they start you build the round by picking one feature from each of three rows. With three options in every row, that makes 27 possible combinations.

How The Spin Lab plays

The game is set inside a neon laboratory, with the reels in front of a blue circuit-board backdrop. Four science symbols sit at the top of the paytable: a circuit-covered cube, an atom, a molecule and a DNA strand, and the cube pays the most of the four. Card ranks from A down to 9 cover the smaller wins.

Wins pay on 25 fixed lines. A multicoloured wild substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, a silver orb that drives the whole game, because three or more of them anywhere on the reels open the Spin Lab Bonus.

The Spin Lab Bonus

The bonus gives five free spins. Before they begin, the game shows a panel of nine features laid out in three rows, and you choose one from each row to create the round:

  • Row one: Symbols the Same turns every cube, atom, molecule and DNA symbol into one of the four, Symbols Stacked makes one of them land stacked, and Symbol Prizes picks one that pays a prize each time it appears.
  • Row two: Stacked Wilds, Extra Wilds, or Wild Multipliers, which give any win that uses a wild a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x.
  • Row three: all wins doubled, wins paid in both directions, or five extra free spins for ten in total.

Your picks change how the round plays, but each result is still random. Because the game hands the design of the round to you, one bonus can look nothing like the last.
