The Link slot review

The Link is a 2016 slot from G.Games, the studio formerly known as Gamevy, played on a three-by-three grid of glowing shapes. Three matching symbols on any of its eight lines make a win, and the more lines one symbol completes on the same spin, the more it pays. Completing all eight lines with diamonds or star wilds pays the top prize of 5,000x stake.

How The Link plays

Nine shapes float in a three-by-three grid against a dark sky dotted with distant stars. The eight lines are the three rows, the three columns and the two diagonals, and all of them are played on every spin, so the only choice is your stake.

G.Games files it under its Simple Intro range, and reviewers note how few rules there are to learn. A green circle, a red triangle and a blue square glow on screen, and the paytable has six symbols:

  • Cross and circle: the two lowest-paying shapes
  • Triangle: the middle of the paytable
  • Square: the second-highest pay
  • Diamond: the top regular symbol
  • Gold star: the wild, which matches the diamond’s pays

The star wild and the line-count paytable

The paytable is what sets The Link apart. It pays a symbol according to how many of the eight lines it completes on the same spin, and the prize grows with every extra line. A grid full of squares completes all eight lines and pays 4,000x stake, and a grid full of diamonds or stars pays 5,000x. Wins from different shapes on one spin are added together.

The gold star is the only special symbol. It can stand in for several shapes at once, and a star in the centre sits on four lines: the middle row, the middle column and both diagonals. There are no free spins, scatters or bonus rounds.
