Steam Tower slot

Steam Tower is a NetEnt slot released on 23 February 2015, with 5 reels, 3 rows and 15 bet lines. Its free spins are a climb: the hero works his way up a 16-floor tower to rescue a princess from a dragon, and the multiplier on line wins rises as he gets higher. Arriving at the top floor brings a bonus win and the highest multiplier in the game, x7.

How Steam Tower plays

NetEnt set the game in a 19th-century steampunk world, and the reels tell the story with their picture symbols: the tower itself, the princess waiting at the top of it and the eye of the dragon that guards her, mixed in with the playing card symbols. Wins come from matching symbols along the 15 bet lines across a 5x3 grid.

The base game has one helper, the stacked wild, and the free spins carry the story. Stakes follow the UK caps shown in the table.

Stacked Wilds

Stacked Wilds are the feature NetEnt names alongside the free spins, and they carry the base game. A stacked wild covers more than one position on its reel at the same time. Each wild in the stack substitutes for the pay symbols, so a single reel of them can help complete wins on several of the 15 lines in one spin. NetEnt’s own summary of the game lists just these two features, Stacked Wilds and Free Spins with an increasing Multiplier.

Free Spins and the Multiplier Meter

The free spins are the heart of Steam Tower, and they play out as an ascent. The hero climbs the tower floor by floor, and a Multiplier Meter keeps track of the current multiplier. The meter updates before each spin according to the floor he stands on, and every bet line win on that spin is multiplied by it. On the lowest floors, 1 to 3, the multiplier is 2x, so a 10p line win is paid as 20p there.

The top floor

Floor 16 is the summit, where the princess is held. Reaching it pays a bonus win worth 1,000 coins multiplied by your bet level, and the Multiplier Meter shows x7, the highest step on the climb. Any line wins landed with that multiplier are boosted seven times over. The tower has no floor beyond the sixteenth, so the top is the end of the ascent.

Steam Tower compared with Jack and the Beanstalk

Another NetEnt fairy tale with a climb at its centre, Jack and the Beanstalk uses the same 5x3 grid but 20 paylines instead of 15. Its free spins grow in a different way. Instead of a multiplier stepping up floor by floor, it collects keys on reel 5 in its Treasure Collection, and those keys upgrade the wilds into stacked and expanding versions. Its Walking Wilds also shift one reel to the left with each re-spin, and wins that include them are tripled.

Game Grid and lines How the free spins build
Jack and the Beanstalk 5x3, 20 paylines Treasure Collection: keys on reel 5 upgrade the wilds
Steam Tower 5x3, 15 bet lines The multiplier rises floor by floor, up to x7 on floor 16

Frequently asked questions

What is the Steam Tower slot about?

It tells a rescue story in a steampunk setting. The princess is held at the top of the tower by a dragon, and the free spins follow the hero’s climb to reach her. The dragon appears on the reels as its eye, alongside the tower and the princess herself, so the paytable carries the same story as the bonus round.

How does the Steam Tower slot machine pay?

Matching symbols pay along the 15 bet lines. Outside the free spins, the stacked wilds are the main help. Inside them, the floor number decides what each line win is multiplied by, and floor 16 adds a fixed coin prize scaled to your bet level on top of the line wins.

Is Steamtower the same game as Steam Tower?

Yes. NetEnt writes the name as two words, Steam Tower, with a trademark sign, while our games list runs it together as Steamtower. It is the same 2015 release either way, with the same tower climb, the same 15 lines and the same 16 floors.
