Golden Lotus slot

Golden Lotus is a Macau-styled slot from Red Tiger, released on 13 April 2016 with 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines. Its defining feature is the Locked Wild: when a lotus blossoms into a wild, magic seeds hold it on the reels for extra spins, and drifting petals can drop more seeds to stretch that stay. Floating blossoms and a blue sky frame the reels.

How Golden Lotus plays

The setting is a water garden in the style of Macau, with blossoms floating under a clear sky. Card royals make up the lower end of the paytable, and above them sit a koi carp and a water lily. The Golden Lotus pays the most of all. Wins form on 20 paylines across five reels and three rows.

The lotus matters most as a wild. It stands in for the other symbols to complete lines, and it need not vanish after the spin it lands on: a lotus that blossoms into a wild can stay locked for further spins. Free Spins symbols are the other special symbol, and three of them anywhere open the bonus round.

Locked Wild

The Locked Wild is the main event of the base game. When a lotus blossoms into a wild, magic seeds come with it, and each seed keeps the wild lotus fixed in place for one additional spin. While it stays, the other reels carry on spinning around it, so a single wild can help complete lines on several spins in a row. The more seeds a wild lotus holds, the longer it remains.

Bonus Locked Wilds

From time to time a soft wind blows through the garden and lotus petals float across the reels. As they pass, they drop extra magic seeds onto wilds that are already locked, so those lotuses last for even more spins than their own seeds would have given them. Since the petals land on locked wilds, this feature works on lotuses that are already in place on the reels.

Free Spins

Free Spins is the bonus round, and it starts when three Free Spins symbols land anywhere on the reels in the same spin; they count in any position, with no need to line up on a payline. The studio’s own advice is to keep watching for more of them once the round has begun. Each extra Free Spins symbol that lands during the round adds further spins to the total.

Golden Lotus compared with Dragon’s Luck

Dragon’s Luck is the natural partner for Golden Lotus: Red Tiger gives both the same release date, 13 April 2016, and both use a grid of five reels and three rows. Dragon’s Luck plays on 10 lines and builds its spins around Dragon Coins, which spin when the reels stop to reveal the same symbol behind every coin. Golden Lotus uses 20 lines and relies on wilds that lock in place, along with a Free Spins round.

Game Released Grid and lines Main feature
Golden Lotus 13 April 2016 5 reels, 3 rows, 20 paylines Wild lotuses locked in place by magic seeds; Free Spins

Crystal Lotus from Eyecon also has a lotus wild, which lands on reels 2, 3 and 4, expands to fill its reel and is held while the others re-spin, up to three times. Sakura Fortune keeps the blossoms: Quickspin sets it among blossom trees, and two full stacks of princess wilds start respins that continue while more wilds arrive. Both are in the Fortune Games lobby. Fortune Games has an app on the App Store and Google Play.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a locked wild stay in Golden Lotus?

That comes down to its magic seeds. Each seed on a wild lotus keeps it locked for one more spin, so a lotus carrying several seeds outlasts one with a single seed. The petals of Bonus Locked Wilds can stretch the stay further by adding new seeds to a wild that is already locked, part-way through its run.

Which symbol pays the most in Golden Lotus?

The Golden Lotus itself. As well as acting as the wild, it tops the paytable, ahead of the koi carp and the water lily, while the card royals fill the lower places. It is also the symbol that the Locked Wild and Bonus Locked Wilds features hold on the reels.

Do Free Spins symbols in Golden Lotus have to land on a payline?

No. They count anywhere on the reels, so three of them in any positions on one spin open the round. Lines only matter for ordinary symbol wins, which are paid across the 20 paylines. During the round itself, every new Free Spins symbol that appears adds to the spins still to come.
