Black Knight slot review

Black Knight is a medieval slot first released by WMS in 2011 and now part of the Light & Wonder range. The online version listed by UK casinos plays on five reels, three rows and 10 paylines. Its free spins are the draw: any Black Knight wild that lands grows to fill its reel and stays there for the rest of the round.

How Black Knight plays

Black Knight is a straightforward line game. Wins come from matching symbols on the paylines, and the paytable is built from a royal court: kings, queens and jesters alongside crowns, maps and rings. The original WMS release used 30 lines; the version listed by UK sites uses 10, so check the information panel for the line count in the version you play.

  • Black Knight wild: substitutes for other symbols to help complete wins. It lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4, never on the outer reels.
  • Bonus scatter: the symbol that starts the free spins.

In the base game the wild is a plain substitute: it stands in for the paying symbols but not for the Bonus scatter, so it cannot help trigger the free spins.

Free spins and the sticky wild reels

Three or more Bonus scatters on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, start the free spins. Three scatters award 7 free spins and four award 12.

During the free spins, every Black Knight wild that lands expands to cover its whole reel and then stays locked in place until the round ends. Because the wild only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, up to three full wild reels can be in play at once, and each one stays for every remaining spin. There is no multiplier in the round.

Some versions also include a Big Bet option, which plays a set of spins at a fixed higher cost. If your version has it, the information panel explains how it works.
