Ancient Egypt Classic review

Theme and Storyline

In the time when they built their monuments, the Ancient Egyptians could not have imagined that their legacy would be unending variations of slot machines which used their animal-headed gods and pictographic writings.

A mix of hieroglyphs, ankhs and a Cleopatra that owes more to MGM than history is the formula here, with ancient Egyptian architecture for the backdrop, Arabic woodwind on the soundtrack.

While Ancient Egypt Classic does not stand out from the similar-looking Book of Ra and its knockoffs, including the immensely popular Book of Dead, it is hard to criticize it for doing so.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

Graphics are serviceable. In some ways, Ancient Egypt Classic's aim is to blend in with the genre, not to stand out. By looking as much like the other ancient Egypt slots out there, it hopes to capture some of their market share.

Overall, the design is good, the animations and sound effects work well together, and the music fits the scene perfectly.

Gameplay

Ancient Egypt Classic is a five reel, three row slot with ten paylines.

Other than the combined Scatter/Wild symbol, it's a pretty standard slot machine.

Free Spins are where the biggest wins can be made, and during them there is an expanding symbol feature (see below).

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

As a Wild, the Scarab symbol substitutes for all other symbols, and as a Scatter, it pays out no matter where it appears. They pay out two times your bet if you hit three in one spin, up to 20 times if you hit four and 200 times if you hit five.

You can also trigger the Free Spin feature by hitting three or more Scarabs. In this feature, you receive ten free spins and a random symbol becomes an Expanding Symbol.

During the Free Spins, the Expanding symbol pays out as a Scatter, expanding to fill all three rows when part of a win.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

This game has a return to player of 96.47%, a little higher than our yardstick of 96%.

Our test site had a minimum bet of $/£/€0.10 and a maximum bet of $/£/€50.00 per spin.

This game's volatility is very high, which is perfect for our slot machine strategies, which are largely focused on high volatility games.

Conclusion

This slot could be ideal for those who liked the Book of Dead but were put off by its huge success.

The ancient Egyptian theme is well realized, the gameplay is classic and solid, and the visuals are good.

With a decent return to player and high volatility, we're on board for an old-fashioned getaway.
