The introduction
Aloha! Aloha is NetEnt's new and revamped version of the original Cluster Pays slot; it's a type of slot that has been adopted by a number of other game developers. This Christmas Edition keeps the charm and fun-nature of the original slot while adding new bonuses and features, and a slightly different theme.
Aloha, graphically speaking! Although Christmas Edition doesn't look particularly Christmas-y, it's got a pretty light and down-to-earth vibe as well as a catchy theme tune, so you'll actually have a lot of fun playing it.
Options for betting and format
Aloha! is similar to the original game. Featuring a grid layout and six rows and reels, Christmas Edition has a grid layout. Because wins are formed by matching clusters of symbols, there are no paylines.
There are also decent stake options, with a minimum bet of just 0.10 credits. Aloha offers a maximum stake of 200 credits for high-stakes players. Spin the Christmas Edition!
Aloha! RTP and volatility for the Christmas Edition
Aloha! NetEnt's Christmas Edition slots have a fixed RTP of 96%. Compared to Aloha Cluster Pays' original payout percentage of 96.42%, this is slightly lower.
Clearly, NetEnt has been trying to build more volatile slots in recent years, and Aloha is no exception! This is a really volatile game, and, like other popular titles such as Victorious and Secret of the Stones, there is also a "MAX" option available - though this is only present when you are choosing your free spins.
Aloha! Christmas Edition Bonus Features
As of now, Aloha! There is a lot of similarity between Aloha Christmas Edition and the original version! As you can see from the following section of our Aloha! review, NetEnt has mixed up things quite a bit with this Cluster Pays slot. We'll be taking a look at some of the new bonuses and features that are included in the Christmas Edition review.
Symbols of mystery
There is a brand-new feature in Aloha called Mystery Symbols! In the Christmas Edition, they can now appear in both the base game and the main bonus round. The same symbol can appear randomly on all reels, and when it appears, it transforms into the same symbol.
What’s really cool in Aloha! Christmas Edition, is that one of the mystery symbols can now transform into a multiplier wild symbol – and this multiplier wild can be worth 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 7X! As a result, it's far easier to form big wins, even when the lower-paying symbols are revealed!
Win re-spins with sticky wins
In the original version, the Sticky Win Re-spin feature was a much-loved part of the game, and it's no surprise to see it return in Aloha! Edition for the holiday season. Randomly selected winning clusters of symbols can be chosen for the feature during the base game.
When it activates, any symbols involved in this win cluster are locked in place, and the rest of the reels' symbols re-spin. After the re-spin, any additional winning symbols that join the cluster are also locked in place - and, once this process is complete, the cluster win is multiplied up to 7X!
Spins for free
The Free Spins bonus round is arguably what most players will be looking out for in Aloha! Christmas Edition, and it’s triggered by landing three or more of the Stamp scatter symbols anywhere in view during the base game. After selecting the Tiki Bar, you will be given two options; the first is to receive 10 Free Spins, during which multipliers of 2X, 3X or 4X can be applied.
Lastly, there is the Tiki Bar MAX option, which awards you with just six free spins and is much more volatile than the other option. There is, however, a 7X multiplier applied to wins during this version of the bonus, which means there is a greater chance of winning.
As a result, Starfish symbols are now added to the reels during both bonuses. You'll also receive two additional free spins if you collect three of these symbols, as well as the removal of the current lower-paying symbol. Therefore, with just the higher-paying premium symbols present on the reels, you can receive one (or more) free spins just as in the original!
Our Verdict Of Aloha! Christmas Edition
We’re still not quite sure how NetEnt has managed to get away with calling Aloha! The little Totem man has a Christmas hat on, and there's some festive cheer to be found, but in reality, this is just a beach holiday themed video slot. For this reason, we don't consider it to be a Christmas slot.
Nevertheless, NetEnt did a good job with Aloha! It feels like a Christmas Edition to us. The original Aloha proved very popular with players - and it is nice to see a remake almost 8 years later! The Cluster Pays game was launched for the first time.
There is a chance to win additional free spins in the bonus round, which we really like. There are mystery symbols in the base game as well, and combined with the randomly-triggered sticky win re-spin feature, there's plenty to keep you entertained.
However, when it comes to the win-potential – unfortunately, Aloha! Christmas Edition falls pretty short of our expectations. As players can only win 1,750X their stake on a single spin, there's a lot to be desired here, and we're not sure why the software provider selected such a small winning cap.
